Reading Challenges

August 2022 Reading Challenge Results

Hello. I hope you are well and had a good August. I hope you read a lot if you decided to participate with me. If not, I still hope you had a great august.

If you’re wondering what I’m talking about you can see that here: https://trflynnofficial.wordpress.com/2022/08/01/august-reading-challenge-2022/

I’ll cut right to the chase because I know everyone’s wondering how many points I was able to rack up. The answer? 150 points.

I’ll give you a second to let that sink in.

How many books did I read? 30.

How many pages in total were there? 10,977.

I’m equally amazed and astounded at this as well. I figured I would have done pretty well. I was expecting to get about 100 points, but 150 is quite outstanding. And that does average out to be just shy of 1 book every day.

Either way, I’m very pleased with how I did. And I found quite a few books that I really liked. And a lot of them are series which makes it all the better. I absolutely love book series. If I love a book I want as much from it as I can get.

I also read quite a few classics as well. I was kinda surprised to look back on that. I didn’t think I read that many.

And because I’m kinda a nerd for tables and visual representation, and also want to share the books that I read with you. Here’s a table breaking everything down:

Calling on Dragons By Patricia C. Wrede2443
Talking to Dragons By Patricia C. Wrede2554
Total Books: 30Total Pages: 10,977Total Points: 150

I love breaking things down like this. It always looks so clean and professional to me.

For the most part, I also liked all the books I read. I did find The Count of Monte Cristo, Frankenstein, and Dracula to be rather slow. Probably because of the time they were written.

I think the only other book I didn’t like was Daughter of Smoke and Bone. I think the concept was interesting, the world was well thought out, and the characters well-rounded. I didn’t like how the Romance part seemed to take centre stage when there were more important things going on. I can see how other people would really like this book, but it wasn’t my cup of tea.

So, what do you think of my list of books? Do you have a favourite of them or one you were surprised I would pick up? If you participated in the challenge with me, what was your score? How many books did you read? I would love to know if you would share.

I hope you are having a wonderful day. And if it’s not wonderful, I hope it gets better. Stay safe, and I will see you next time.

Monthly Projects

August Reading Challenge 2022

Hello. I hope you are doing well.

I’m sure you read the title and thought, ‘what is she planning now?’ And I will not fault you for that.

For the past couple of years, I have been doing a summer reading challenge over the course of one month to challenge myself to read more. I chose the summer because it gets really hot where I live so going out and doing things isn’t really an option, I tend to not have as much energy in the heat, and I’m usually really busy during the summers because of… well about a million reasons really.

But I have always done them exclusively by myself. This year I thought it would be fun to challenge you to read with me and see who can do better. I like to be competitive, but if that isn’t for you I understand and you don’t have to take it this way if you would like to participate as well.

The first rule of this challenge should be to have fun because at the end of the day that’s really what this is all about.

On to the rules!

  1. Graphic Novels 250 pages or less =1 point
  2. Graphic Novels 250 pages or more=3 points
  3. Short Stories 100 pages or less=2 points
  4. Books 101-250 pages=3 points
  5. Books 251-350 pages =4 points
  6. Books 351-400 pages=5 points
  7. Books 401-500 pages=6 points
  8. Books 500 pages or more=8 points
  9. Audiobooks count as a regular book
  10. Articles and fanfiction don’t count(not because I think these shouldn’t count, but because I think it could get complicated to keep track of how many pages in a single article vs. a book)
  11. Aim to get as many points as you can by the 31st of the month/1st of September
  12. Have fun

I’m unsure if this particular setup for a challenge has been done before. I know I took inspiration from a couple different places. i.e. a video I watched ages ago about someone trying to read one book every day for a month, and a school’s mandatory reading based on a point system from an article that I read fairly recently.

I also thought that since I did a bingo-style challenge and a certain number of pages every day already, why not try something entirely out of the left field? I’m nothing if not willing to try.

I will of course be competing in this as well. I haven’t decided yet if I’m going to give weekly updates on my progress or not. I guess we’ll have to see there.

What books are you hoping to read this month? Whether you’re participating or not? I’d love to know if you’d like to share.

I hope you are having a wonderful day, and if it’s not wonderful I hope it gets better. Stay safe, and I will see you next time.
